Jakarta. State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II is prepared to serve an increased number of passengers during the holiday season.
AP II president director Muhammad Awaluddin said the surge in passengers began Dec. 22. AP II is planning to add at least 1,158 more flights until Jan. 8 to accommodate the higher number of passengers.
"AP II has been prepared since the holiday season arrived and will last until Jan. 8. Above all, we predict that Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will be the busiest during this time," he said in a statement.
AP II has opened several new terminals at 13 airports, including Soekarno-Hatta Airport's new Terminal 3.
"With the operation of new terminals, our capacity will increase and provide more comfort for both foreign and domestic tourists. We predict by the end of this year, there will be 103 million passengers that we have served," Awaluddin said.
"We continue to increase synergies with our stakeholders [to provide good services during the holidays], including airlines, customs, immigration, the Indonesian Armed Forces [TNI] and the police. This is to ensure smooth operations during the holidays," he explained.
To add more services, AP II has also promoted its digital app, called Indonesia Airports, which can be downloaded through the Google PlayStore.
"This app is meant to provide a thing we call 'smart airports.' And for passengers traveling through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, they now can also enjoy super fast WiFi connections of up to 50 Mbps," Awaluddin said.
"Moreover, there are self check-in machines operating at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, including 38 units at Terminal 3 to serve Garuda Indonesia passengers and 12 units at Terminal 1 C for Batik Air passengers. Later, other airlines will be integrated with this system," he added.
